Dance Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process which furthers the emotional, cognitive, social and physical integration of an individual. It heals by integrating a person's body, mind and spirit, enhancing self-esteem, self pleasure, spirituality, and richness in relationships.

About Dance Movement Psychotherapists (DMT)
DMT's are specifically trained to work with the whole person, seeing each person as a connected expression of body, mind, emotion and spirit. Their specialty is working with the body - integrating new knowledge gained from movement and discussion. The word dance is used to describe DMT's, not because we use a dance form in therapy, but rather because dance is our metaphor. Dance/movement both literally shows expression and is open to change. Our goal for our clients is to move fluidly in their body (therefore also their psyche) without restriction in a joyful, lively and connected way.
Our training includes psychological training, group and individual therapeutic understanding and techniques, work with dance and the other creative arts, biomechanics and anatomy, and training in developmental movement which encompasses an understanding of the body and its relationship to the psyche. A dance therapist usually focuses her healing work on a specific group of people with whom she works best and has the most experience.
At the Innerdance Studio in Rush, Carolee works to help people increase their self-esteem, increase their physical energy and vitality, modify addictive behaviors, resolve childhood and other traumas, reconnect with body perceptions, and find their spiritual connections. She has been practicing Dance Therapy for over 35 years, twenty of them in Rush.
